Try out this very tasty oil free chole recipe made with a special blend of roasted & coarsely grounded spices. Simply delicious & totally healthy.
Ingredients
Chickpeas/Safed Chole - 1 1/2 cups
Soda - a pinch
Whole Coriander - 2 tablespoons
Tej Patta/ Bayleaf - 2
Whole Red Chillies - 3-4
Cumin - 1 teaspoon
Black Peppercorns - 10-12
Cloves - 3-4
Big Cardamom - 2
Tamarind - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 teaspoons ( optional )
Onion - 1 mdium
Green Chillies - 3-4
Fresh Green Coriander - a handful
Method
Step 1 - Soak the chickpeas overnight. In the morning, drain the water and boil them in fresh water with a pinch of soda, salt & half of the whole garam masala except tamarind.
Step 2 - Soak the tamarind in water.
Step 3 - Dry roast the other half of the whole garam masala & coarsely grind it.
Step 4 - Heat a Kadhai & put the boiled chole along with all the water in it.
Step 5 - Add the roasted & coarsely ground garam masala to the chole & mix well.
Step 6 - If using oil then add it at this stage.
Step 7 - Add the tamarind water & adjust according to your taste by adding more salt or tamarind water.
Step 8 - Garnish with sliced onions, green chillies & chopped fresh green coriander.
