A popular Sunday lunch meal in most northern households. Its a delicious comfort food & a must try recipe.
Ingredients
Gram Flour ( Besan ) - 1 cup
Sour Curd - 1 cup
Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Fenugreek Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Whole Red Chili - 2
Asafoetida - a pinch
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Mustard Oil for frying & to make the curry
Salt to taste
Method
Step 1 - Take half a cup of gram flour or besan, mix some water & beat it until light & fluffy.
Step 2 - Heat oil in a wok, make small balls (pakodi) of the beaten besan & fry in the oil. When done, keep aside.
Step 3 - Take a little oil in the pan, put asafoetida, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves & whole red chillies.
Step 4 - Now add red chilli, turmeric powder & salt.
Step 5 - Add thee remaining half cup besan, with water & curd. Boil this mixture & bring it to the right consistency.
Step 6 - Add the pakoras made earlier & boil the karhi and bring to a nice consistency.
Step 7 - Garnish it with desi ghee & chilli flakes.
Step 8 - Serve hot with roti or rice.
Tips:
1. For best results follow the recipe as variations might alter the taste.
2. Having said that, salt, oil & chilli are a personal choice, and should be added according to one's taste.
